Actress Pat Kirkwood, the last survivor from the golden age of the great pre-war British musical stars, died on Christmas Day aged 86.
The young, handsome royal consort and the wealthy, beautiful West End star dined among famous faces, such as movie star Jean Simmons.
She eventually returned to London to appear in the revue Starlight Roof.
Her first early marriage, to West End theatre executive Jack Lister, 15 years her senior, had long since foundered. Kennedy's brother-in-law, actor Peter Lawford, and also with Danny Kaye.
Her mother, Norah, was ambitious and unashamedly stage-struck, and from the moment her daughter showed talent as a singer and actress, she pushed her forward relentlessly.
At the tender age of 15, and still at school, Pat was catapulted into the rough, tough world of the variety halls, where she stood alone on stage as a solo singer, billed as "the Schoolgirl Songstress".On the way there, she tried to get out of the car and leap to her death from a bridge, but was prevented.
